Chapter 8

Technology plays a bigger role in the classroom today than we think. Simple things like texting and emailing play a large role in the communication between teachers and their students, teachers and their colleagues, teachers and their supervisors, and teachers and parents. Often most classrooms today have some sort of class website, app, or even a blog where teachers can post assignments and communicate with students. Students can post their homework, take online tests, and post papers as well.

The most important thing about technology in a classroom is the communication that it brings to students and their peers. It is always important for students to see each other’s thoughts and perspectives to gain insight on topics. When students become engaged and have the desire to view their peers’ posts, the information they are receiving will really help stay in their brains and will help them remember the learned information longer.

In these pages, I was brought to the attention of social media bringing students together and I completely agree. One of my favorite things I have seen in today’s technological world is that teachers can post a question on a smart board and students can communicate through an app and even like each other’s posts and comment just like Instagram or Twitter. A social media for education is awesome and really gets the kids engaged and excited to see each other’s thoughts just like Twitter.

Having a social media app where students can see everyone’s responses is really helpful to the participation aspect of the classroom. If there is a student who comments very often and likes their peers’ posts, then you can tell that that student is really participative. This also helps the students’ peers feel more confident and happy about their work because they are getting so much feedback. If there is a student who does not comment or like other students’ posts often, then you can really monitor his/her participation and encourage them do more.

Chapter 10 TLNT Differentiated Instruction is a key way to teach and helps students when confused with a lesson. It is important to note that there are several different types of learners and giving students different options and methods for completing a problem is pertinent to success in the classroom. Universal Design for Learning is really important because it applies to all students in a general way. Students need multiple ways of acquiring information, so that each student can apply which method works for him/her best in that scenario. Students now have the opportunity to express themselves in several ways as well that suit their best attributes for demonstrating answers. Chapter 5 Nurturing young innovators: Makerspaces I feel that the main objective in this chapter is for kids to be innovative designers in both the classroom and their homes. I think that makerspaces are important for our students, especially at home because of the effects parents have on their children. Building robots is an important tool for students to experience the technology portion of STEM. I was very inspired by the creativity that the cardboard challenge brought to the students. A step by step instruction guide to build whatever students are interested is a great way to teach, motivate, and inspire. Tasks Before Apps Chapter 3 One idea that I thought is really important is teachers creating surveys for their students.
